Eligibility

• Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics (compulsory), plus Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, Computer Science or a vocational subject.
• At least 45% aggregate in PCM (40% for reserved categories) and 30% in English.
• Minimum age 17 by 31 December 2027. No upper limit.
• WB domicile for state-quota seats. Other states are eligible for some seats (e.g., Jadavpur University with all-India eligibility rules).

Exam Pattern

Question categories (each subject):

• Maths: 50 + 15 + 10 questions. Physics and Chemistry: 30 + 5 + 5 questions each.

Syllabus — Topics

Based on WB Higher Secondary (Class 11 & 12) and NCERT. Very similar to JEE Main.

• Maths: algebra (A.P./G.P., logarithms, complex numbers, quadratics, P&C, binomial, matrices, determinants, sets, relations, mappings, statistics & probability), trigonometry, 2D & 3D coordinate geometry, calculus (differential and integral, differential equations, applications), vectors.
• Physics: units & dimensions, kinematics, laws of motion, gravitation, bulk properties of matter, viscosity, surface tension, thermodynamics, KTG, oscillations & waves, electrostatics, current electricity, magnetic effect of current, EMI & AC, EM waves, optics, dual nature, atomic & nuclear physics, solid-state electronics.
• Chemistry: atoms, molecules & chemical arithmetic, atomic structure, radioactivity, periodic table, chemical bonding, gaseous state, chemical energetics, equilibrium, ionic equilibrium, redox, electrochemistry, kinetics, hydrogen, s/p/d/f-block, coordination compounds, solid state, solutions, surface chemistry, environmental chemistry, organic chemistry (GOC, hydrocarbons, haloalkanes, alcohols, phenols, ethers, carbonyls, amines), biomolecules, polymers, chemistry in everyday life.

Preparation Timeline

• If you're preparing for JEE Main, you're already about 90% ready for WBJEE.
• Spend the last 4–6 weeks before WBJEE on its OMR format and Cat-3 multi-correct questions, plus past WBJEE papers.
• Maths is half the total marks (100/200), so prioritise it.

Tips: Avoid guessing in Cat 1 and 2, since negative marking applies (−0.25 and −0.5). Cat 3 has no negative marking, so always attempt it. Practise OMR bubbling. The exam is offered in English and Bengali.
