Students and parents across Maharashtra are anxiously waiting for the 11th-grade admission process to move forward. Despite the early declaration of the 10th-grade results, the first merit list has been delayed, causing concern. ๐ฅ
In an exclusive conversation with Zee Media, Director of Education Mahesh Palkar shed light on the reasons behind the delay.
"The goal of announcing the 10th-grade results early was to ensure the 11th-grade admission process and college commencement happen on time," a reporter stated before questioning the delay.
Director Mahesh Palkar explained that this year, the admission process for the entire state is being conducted through a single, centralized online portal, unlike last year when five major municipal corporations had separate systems. This unification requires significant software management.
The primary cause for the current delay is a recent government resolution (GR) issued on June 23, 2025. This GR, which pertains to the minority student quota, was formulated based on a court order from June 12, 2025.
"To implement the changes from the new government resolution, our software needs to be updated. This revision process is currently underway," Palkar said.
He confirmed that the first merit list, which was originally scheduled for release on the night of June 26, will now be postponed by approximately three to four days due to these essential software adjustments.
"We are working on a war footing to complete the software development. A revised schedule will be announced to everyone shortly," he assured.
When will colleges start? ๐ซ
Addressing concerns about the academic year, Palkar stated that colleges are expected to begin opening in July. Once the first merit list is declared and over 50% of admissions are completed in a particular college, it will be permitted to start its sessions.
According to the official government mandate, all colleges are required to be fully functional by August 11, 2025.
"Typically, 11th-grade colleges start around August or September. We are trying to get them started earlier. The first merit list will be declared in early July," Palkar concluded.
The education department is hopeful that with these technical issues resolved, the admission process will proceed smoothly, providing relief to lakhs of students awaiting their college placements. ๐
