Eligibility

Passed Class 12 in 2025 or 2026, or appearing in 2027.
No age limit. NTA does not ask for a minimum percentage to appear.
For NIT, IIIT and GFTI admission, you need 75% in Class 12 (65% for SC/ST), or a place in the top 20 percentile of your board.
Physics and Maths are compulsory in Class 12, plus one of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or a technical vocational subject.

When to Start Preparing

Stage	Plan
Class 9–10 (optional)	Foundation courses build Maths and Science reasoning. Helpful, but not necessary.
Class 11 start (ideal)	Start serious JEE preparation, about 2 years before the exam. Class 11 makes up about 45–50% of the paper.
Class 12 (Apr–Dec)	Finish the Class 12 syllabus by November–December. Start full mocks for the January session.
Dec–Jan	Mock tests, past papers (2019–2026), and revision for Session 1.
Feb–Mar	Boards. Keep up light JEE practice.
Mar–Apr	Improve weak areas for Session 2.
Droppers	Use the full year. Start fresh mocks by October.

Strategy tips

NCERT is non-negotiable for Chemistry, especially Inorganic.
Take 2 full mocks a week from November onward, and analyse each one for at least 2 hours.
Keep a "mistake notebook" and a formula sheet for each subject.
Use Session 1 as a real-exam rehearsal and Session 2 to improve your score.

After the Exam

Top 2.5 lakh candidates (by category) qualify for JEE Advanced.
JoSAA counselling covers IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. CSAB special rounds follow.
Many states, such as Maharashtra (All-India quota), Haryana, Odisha and Delhi, also accept JEE Main scores.

Start in Class 11; NCERT for Chemistry is a must; finish Class 12 syllabus by Nov–Dec; 2 full mocks/week from November; use Session 1 as rehearsal and Session 2 to improve.
